he was extremely weak. Uh he was having seizures. He was neurologic and we did not [music] think he was going to live through the night. Uh the staff

immediately started supportive care and became very very attached to Ethan. We all all of us really care about our

patients but this one was special. This one had been abused to the point that he had such extreme protein loss and such

0:56

extreme uh evidence of starvation that it was very questionable if he was going to survive. And our staff turned out to

love him greatly. Uh some of the staff actually crawled in and slept in the cage with him. Um [music] and we treated him for his seizures. We

treated him for his dehydration. We treated him for his malnutrition. uh he couldn’t stand and we would hold him up and try to do physical therapy on his

limbs to try to get him strong enough to be able to stand and over time he eventually became stronger [music]

little by little by little. It was still very touchy um that he was going to survive. Uh [music] the staff spent an

1 minute, 35 seconds

enormous amount of time trying to work with him and thank you to Dr. Emily Buy, the director of the Kentucky Humane Society, for working with us um and

1:45

1 minute, 45 seconds

helping us um maintain this high level of treatment and care that Ethan deserved. Over time, Ethan finally after

1:54

1 minute, 54 seconds

we could stand him up and he would knuckle on all four and [music] then finally he could place his paws and then finally we were able to get him to eat a

little bit without force feed syringe feeding him. Um, [music] and little by little he gained his his strength back and he wasn’t having any seizures

anymore. He was still neurologic and he still had um sores all over his body.

Um, but he finally was able to be released back to the Kentucky Humane Society who also has a extremely loving staff who took very good care of Ethan.

And now Ethan has his forever home. Uh, and uh, he’s doing fantastic. uh he’s over most of his neurologic signs and

2:34

2 minutes, 34 seconds

it’s absolutely amazing for the degree of starvation, the degree of protein loss that this dog actually recovered
